Cheating

Playing only in Primary schools, this video takes a look into why pupils may feel the need to cheat and how in the long run, it will not benefit them. This is part of our series to encourage younger children to get into the good habit of talking to their parents/carers/teachers if there is something that may be bothering them.

Maths in a Minute

Mind teasers are really popular videos within our library, so with the SATs quickly approaching, we thought we’d combine these types of fun, interactive videos whilst testing pupils arithmetic skills! These quick fire videos challenge pupils to reach the target by using only 6 numbers and their numeracy skills. How many solutions can pupils find in a minute?!

Video still from Maths in a minute, which tests pupils arithmetic skills.

Bullying – ‘Frenemies’

SAT’s week can be stressful in itself without pupils feeling like their friends are subtly being bullies – but how would pupils know that playful banter was bullying? This video takes a look at habits a bully disguised as a friend are likely to do.

As our ‘Who am I’ fact videos are a popular addition to playlists, we’ve made special Olympic and Paralympic versions, with facts about Olympic and Paralympic heroes. These videos are available instantly in the library, just search ‘Olympics’ or ‘Paralympics’ to see the selection. Anomaly Film and South End Junior School

In this blog post, Anomaly focuses on one of our successful schools, South End Junior School in Northamptonshire. We recently visited the school to do a project day with a number of pupils and their Anomaly Film kit, a portable green screen and filming kit for schools. Project days are free of charge service, where an Anomaly trainer will come to your school and help pupils use their Anomaly Film kit to film and edit their very own media ideas and produce a completed film by the end of the day.

South End Junior School

Anomaly has had the pleasure of working with South End Junior School to constantly improve their existing digital infrastructure and help support the school’s motto, ‘Inspiring the Learning Journey’.

Tim, one of our experienced trainers, worked with the pupils on bringing to life their film on British values and the four topics of democracy, respecting religions, liberty and rule of law. We witnessed the fruits of the pupils’ creativity throughout the day with updates via their Twitter @SouthEndJrSch.

By the end of the project day, the pupils had created a fantastic film on what British Values are, which you can find on their YouTube by clicking here. We also think it’s worth mentioning to check out their e-safety video – the pupils of South End Junior School are definitely budding film makers!

We love to hear how you’re getting on with your Anomaly equipment! Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to be featured, or alternatively phone the office for further training or information.

International Day of Democracy and Anomaly Content Manager

In this blog post, we’re looking at new content we have on our Anomaly screens and with today being International Day of Democracy, we’re going to look at how our content is helping schools to highlight democracy within their school community. In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly resolved to observe International Day of Democracy with the purpose of promoting and upholding the principles of democracy. With this in mind, we’ve created content tailored to improve understanding of what a democratic society is, how Britain is run and how this differs from other governments around the world.

Anomaly Content

We’ve produced content which aims to give students a better understanding of the values of democracy, respect and how Britain is run. The content covers everything from explaining what democracy is (with helpful examples related to the classroom) to examining the different types of government used to run other countries around the world.

Different Governments    Democracy

More content is planned around this subject of democracy and values and you can find current content available in the library on the Anomaly Content Manager. If you struggle to find the content or put it into your playlist to show on your screens, please do not hesitate to give us a call.

We’ve teamed up with Activate Sport…

In this blog post Anomaly are focusing on the exciting developments regarding Anomaly equipment and the Sport Premium. Over the summer we’ve teamed up with Activate Camps to produce various videos which can be used to promote active learning at your schools. In this blog post we’ll be looking at the work Activate do. Anomaly had the pleasure to speak with Dom Taylor, Operations Manager at Active to see what he had to say.

Could you give us a bit of history about Activate?

“Activate started 11 years ago, we started as a very small company in Derbyshire. Since then we’ve grown and we’re now working with over 200 camps across the UK, we operate at over 50 different venues across the country. With some of our more high profile camps, we often have top professional sports players come down which is really good. We also specialise in several different areas of sports, for example, tennis, hockey, lacroix and so much more.”

What kind of work are you doing with schools already?

“We do a variety of different things with schools all over the country really. We have a good background of coaching and teaching schools so we can offer a solution to schools who may struggle with PE at their school. We work with over 300 coaches across the country so this allows us to pick the right staff to go into schools and offer support to teachers who made need it.”

What are the aims of Activate?

“In terms of our aims, our main aim is to get kids active. We try to inspire kids to get involved in sports by using top brands and sports personalities. For example we’ve worked with Andrew Flintoff, Louis Smith and so many other high profile names. Inspiring kids with these top athletes, it normally encourages them to take sport more seriously.”

What are the future plans for Activate?

“We have some big plans, we’re always looking to expand our camps program. We’re always looking to expand that and make it more inclusive. We’re looking to increase the coaching awareness, so for example risk management, health and safety and more. We just want to keep going and keep providing a top quality service.”

You NEED to read this before you use your Sport Premium

In this blog post Anomaly are focusing the exciting developments regarding Anomaly equipment and the Sport Premium. Most schools with primary-age pupils receive the PE and sport premium and because of this we’re writing about all the ways you can utilise this in relation to Anomaly equipment. Keeping active and promoting healthy eating are always top priority at all schools in the UK, at Anomaly we understand the difficulties some schools may face.

How to use the PE and sport premium

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. According to the government website, you should use the premium to make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years. This could mean adding to the addition sports material you have in school or bringing in new equipment for pupils to enjoy.

The website explains partially how you could use your funding, so for example you can use your funding to hire a qualified sports coach to work with teachers or provide existing staff with training or resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively.

How will Anomaly help?

Anomaly is able to help with the sport premium in a number of ways. Instead of hiring someone to come into your school, you’re able to display interactive sports lessons on your Anomaly screens. We’ve been working really hard over the summer to organise partnerships with local organisations to provide some Sport Premium content for our screens in September. The content will feature top professionals demonstrating how to perform different sports activities. The content will be easy for anyone to follow along with regardless of skill level.

In addition to the pre-existing content we have on our screens, schools can also request new content to meet their needs. So for example if you think we should have some more content related to a certain sport, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Encourage digital learning with inspiration from the Olympics

With the Olympics in full flow, why not embrace digital at your school? The Olympics have just started and we’ve been looking at how schools can embrace both the Olympics and Anomaly equipment over summer. In this blog post we’re taking a look at active learning in schools and how schools can use the event to improve activity levels. But how can you use the upcoming tournament to teach key subjects at your school?

Encourage active learning

Encouraging active learning is something we always promote at Anomaly. With every blog post related to keeping healthy we try to suggest to our schools what they can do to ensure they’re promoting an active environment. With the Olympics starting over the weekend, we thought it would be a good idea to talk about the positive impact that exercise can have in school in relation to utilising Anomaly equipment.

It’s important to encourage active learning all year round, especially with the announcement of more funding being allocated in relation to the sports premium for schools. According to the department of education website, with the sports premium, schools with 17 or more pupils receive £8,000 plus £5 per pupil. For an average sized school with 200 pupils, the school will receive around £9,000. Why not use Anomaly equipment to put your additional sport premium to good use to improve the quality of PE? We have a lot of sports content on our screens which can be used to improve the existing sports equipment at your school.

Below you’ll find an example to some of the content that is displayed on our screens which aims to improve activities levels of students in the playground.

As well the content from UK Sports Coaching, we have vast amounts of sports related videos for our schools to enjoy. If you can’t find something that suits your needs, please do not hesitate to give us a call and request some different content.
